Psoriasis Recipes N1

Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition characterized by itchy, red, scaly patches that can sometimes bleed when scratched. Research shows that psoriasis is a genetic disease that can indicate an increased risk of more serious medical problems like diabetes and cardiovascular disease. As a result, it is important to treat psoriasis rather than just ignoring it.

Oatmeal Bath  many topical treatments are available to improve the symptoms of psoriasis. Some of these require a prescription, but others do not. One natural option you might want to consider is an oatmeal bath. You can either get one over the counter at your local drug store or you can make your own. Many oatmeal bath recipes are available, but here is one you can try. Pulverize 1 cup of rolled oats in a blender or food processor. Then drizzle in 2 tbsp. apricot kernel oil. (You should be able to find apricot kernel oil in your local health food store.) Next, place the mixture in a cotton bag or handkerchief and tie it with some type of cotton strap. Place this concoction in the bathtub while you are filling it with water. Squeeze the bag while you are soaking in the tub. An alternative to the bag is to just put all the ingredients in the tub and soak in it directly. However, doing so is much more messy and difficult on your tub drain. For severe psoriasis, you might try soaking in an oatmeal bath for 20 to 30 minutes three times a day. People with less severe cases can use oatmeal baths less often.

Dead Sea Salt Bath  Another topical treatment recipe you might want to try is a Dead Sea Salt Bath. To warm water, add 1/2 cup Dead Sea salt. (You should be able to find both "Dead Sea Bath Salts 100 % Natural" and "Dead Sea Classics" brands in your local grocery store.) Soak for approximately 10 minutes and then scrub the area affected by the psoriasis to remove the dead skin. Once you have scrubbed thoroughly, soak for another 10 minutes and then get out of the tub. After you have dried off, use some 100 percent pure petroleum jelly on your skin to moisten it. Be gentle when scrubbing, especially if the area affected by psoriasis is in your genital region.

Foods Along with topical recipes, you can find many other recipes for foods that are beneficial to people who suffer with psoriasis. One of these is a grain called quinoa that is made much like oatmeal or rice. You use twice as much water as grain. Bring the water to a boil and then add the quinoa. Turn the fire down to low and cover, cooking for about 15 minutes or until you have the desired consistency. Once it is cooked, add other ingredients to spice it up like raisins, grated carrots, nuts, tofu, etc., or you can just eat it plain. Other recipes you might try include Garlic Parmesan Broccoli, Yucca Potato and Mushroom Soup with Seaweed and Chocolate Haystacks (see link in Resources).

Whether you choose a natural topical treatment or to treat your psoriasis with a more healthy diet, you should be able to find numerous recipes available to help you improve your condition.
